what did you let yourself enjoy without earning it?

there's a voice that says you have to deserve the nice thing first. finish the task, hit the goal, then you can rest. but sometimes you skip the earning and let yourself have it anyway.

every day there's one live question, the same for everyone. answer it anonymously, see what other people said. it's all gone in seven days.

answer today's question

think about something you enjoyed recently that you hadn't earned by any usual measure. maybe you took an afternoon off, bought something just because, or rested when there was still more to do. write it down plainly. then notice what came up alongside the enjoyment. guilt, a justification, a bargain you made with yourself. write those down too. see if you can separate the pleasure from the accounting. try writing one line that gives yourself permission without attaching a condition to it. notice how that feels in your body as you write it.

  • write about a moment of rest or pleasure you took before the to do list was done.
  • think about the inner negotiation that happens when you let yourself have something nice.
  • describe what it would look like to enjoy something without needing to justify it to anyone, including yourself.

this one is for anyone who operates on a system of earning before enjoying and is starting to question whether that's the only way.
