what are you scared people would think if they saw the real number?

there is a number somewhere in your life you do not say out loud. not because it is private exactly, but because you are afraid of what it would mean if someone saw it.

every day there's one live question, the same for everyone. answer it anonymously, see what other people said. it's all gone in seven days.

answer today's question

write the number down. just the number, nothing else, at the top of the page. let it sit there. then write what the number is about. money owed, hours spent, times you tried, times you didn't. whatever it is. now write what you imagine someone would think if they saw it. the worst version. the judgement. then ask yourself: is that judgement actually theirs, or is it yours? write about where that fear of being seen comes from. sometimes the real weight isn't the number itself. it is carrying it alone. finish by writing one sentence about what it would feel like if someone knew and did not flinch.

  • write about who specifically you would least want to see the number, and why their opinion carries so much weight.
  • consider whether the number tells the whole story, or just the part that makes you look worst.
  • ask yourself how long you have been carrying this number quietly and what that secrecy has cost you.

this is for anyone who carries a figure they are ashamed of. especially if the hiding has become heavier than the number itself.
