what did you decide about yourself that isn’t even true?

at some point, you decided something about yourself. maybe someone said it, maybe you inferred it. it became a fact in your mind. but it might not be true. it might never have been.

every day there's one live question, the same for everyone. answer it anonymously, see what other people said. it's all gone in seven days.

answer today's question

write down a belief you hold about yourself that shapes how you move through the world. something like, i'm not creative, or i'm too much, or i'm not the kind of person who gets chosen. now try to trace where it came from. was it a single moment, a pattern, something someone said? write down the evidence you've collected over the years to support this belief. then, honestly, write down anything that contradicts it. anything at all. notice whether the belief is something you've proven, or something you decided early and then kept confirming. you don't have to dismantle it tonight. just look at it clearly.

  • write the belief as a sentence, then try to remember the first time you thought it was true.
  • think about whether this belief protects you from something, like trying and failing.
  • ask yourself how your life would be different if you discovered this belief was simply wrong.

this is for anyone who suspects they've been living inside a story about themselves that was written a long time ago by someone who didn't have the full picture.
