what would you do if no one was keeping score?

so much of what you do is shaped by the idea that someone, somewhere, is watching and counting. what would you choose if none of it was being measured.

every day there's one live question, the same for everyone. answer it anonymously, see what other people said. it's all gone in seven days.

answer today's question

imagine a version of your life where nothing is compared. no metrics, no milestones that matter to anyone but you. no one tallying your achievements or noting your failures. write about what you would do differently. would you work the same way. would you rest more. would you try something you've avoided because you might not be good at it. be concrete. write about your morning, your week, your year. write about what you would stop doing, and what you would finally start. notice what feels lighter when you take the scoreboard away.

  • write about one thing you do mostly because it looks good to others, and what you would replace it with.
  • describe the version of success that has nothing to do with anyone else's definition.
  • name something you would try if being bad at it didn't count against you.

for anyone who suspects they have been living for the scorecard more than for themselves, and wants to imagine what the alternative looks like.
