what's the thing you'd say to your younger self if they were sat here?

there's something you wish someone had said to you earlier. maybe nobody did. maybe they tried and you couldn't hear it yet.

every day there's one live question, the same for everyone. answer it anonymously, see what other people said. it's all gone in seven days.

answer today's question

pick an age. not the worst year, necessarily, just one that comes to mind. picture that version of you, what they were wearing, what they were worried about. now write to them directly. start with their name if it helps, or just "you". say the thing that rises first. it might be a warning, a reassurance, or something surprisingly small. don't edit for wisdom. the truest things often sound ordinary. if what comes out surprises you, stay with it. write a second line about why you think that particular thing surfaced now.

  • write the sentence you most needed to hear at fifteen, and notice whether you still need to hear it now.
  • think about what your younger self would make of your life today, and write down their honest reaction.
  • consider whether you're offering comfort or an apology, and what that distinction tells you.

for anyone who has grown up a lot but still sometimes feels like that younger version of themselves, sitting quietly, waiting for someone to say the right thing.
