what's the thing you'd cry about if you started?

you know the feeling. something sits just behind your eyes, heavy but held. you keep it there because you suspect that if you started, you wouldn't stop easily.

every day there's one live question, the same for everyone. answer it anonymously, see what other people said. it's all gone in seven days.

answer today's question

you don't have to cry to do this. just write the name of the thing. it might be a loss, a person, a version of your life that didn't happen. write it plainly at the top of the page. then write around it. what does it feel like to hold it in? where in your body do you carry it? write about why now isn't the time, or why you don't feel safe enough, or why you think it wouldn't help. let yourself be honest about the weight without needing to put it down yet. sometimes just naming it is enough for one sitting.

  • write the sentence you would say out loud if you let yourself break down right now.
  • think about the last time you almost cried but stopped yourself, and what you did instead.
  • write about what you are afraid would happen if you actually let yourself feel it fully.

this is for anyone who has been holding something heavy for a while and knows exactly what it is but hasn't looked at it directly.
