what’s the bit you still can’t quite name?
not every feeling comes with a label. sometimes you know something is there, you can feel its weight, its shape, but the word for it keeps slipping away.
every day there's one live question, the same for everyone. answer it anonymously, see what other people said. it's all gone in seven days.
answer today's question →start by writing about where you feel it. in your body, in your days, in the way you react to certain things. describe it without naming it. is it heavy or restless. does it arrive at a particular time. is it tied to a person, a place, a memory. try writing around it rather than at it. sometimes the unnamed thing shows itself sideways, in metaphors or small details. you don't have to pin it down tonight. the point is to get closer. write what you know so far, even if it's just, there's something here and i don't have the word for it yet.
- describe the feeling using only where and when it shows up, not what you think it means.
- write about the closest word you've found for it and why it doesn't quite fit.
- consider whether not naming it has been a way of keeping it at a distance.
this is for you if something has been sitting underneath your days and you've been circling it without landing. if you're tired of almost knowing what it is.
