what would you tell the version of you that’s coming next?

sometimes you can feel yourself becoming someone slightly different. not dramatically, just enough to notice the edges shifting. this question asks what you'd want to carry forward.

every day there's one live question, the same for everyone. answer it anonymously, see what other people said. it's all gone in seven days.

answer today's question

start by writing down what you know now that you didn't a year ago. not lessons you've memorised, but things you actually feel in your body. then write a short letter. begin with something like, "the thing i want you to remember is." don't worry about being wise. be honest instead. if warnings come up, write those too. if tenderness comes up, let it. you might find you're not advising your future self so much as asking them not to forget something that matters to you right now.

  • write about one thing you've learned recently that you're afraid you'll unlearn.
  • try imagining yourself six months from now, and write down what you hope they haven't given up on.
  • write about what you'd forgive them for in advance.

this one is for anyone in the middle of becoming something they can't quite name yet. especially if you feel like you're about to leave a version of yourself behind.
