what are you still trying to earn?

sometimes the striving doesn't stop even when you've already arrived. somewhere inside, there's still something you believe you haven't quite earned yet.

every day there's one live question, the same for everyone. answer it anonymously, see what other people said. it's all gone in seven days.

answer today's question

write the question down, then sit with the first answer that comes. it might be love, respect, rest, a place at the table. write what you're doing to earn it. what does the earning look like day to day. then ask yourself: who first made you feel like this was something you had to work for. write about that. try to separate the thing itself from the performance around it. you might notice that what you're earning is something others seem to have without effort. write about what that's like. be honest rather than fair.

  • write about the specific behaviours you use to earn this thing, the habits that look like effort but feel like anxiety.
  • think about who in your life seems to have this without trying, and what that stirs in you.
  • ask yourself what would change if you believed you already had it.

this is for anyone who works hard in ways that don't quite feel like ambition. for people who suspect they're performing for approval they shouldn't need to ask for.
