what's the version of events you've been telling that isn't quite right?

you know the thing. you keep moving it to tomorrow. but if someone handed you a free afternoon, you still wouldn't do it.

every day there's one live question, the same for everyone. answer it anonymously, see what other people said. it's all gone in seven days.

answer today's question

write down the thing you have been putting off. then cross out the word "time" as a reason. what is left? write about what doing this thing would actually require of you. maybe it means admitting something has changed. maybe it means having a conversation you are not ready for. maybe it means confronting a version of yourself you have outgrown. be honest about what the task really represents. write about the feeling that arrives when you imagine actually doing it, not after, but during. name that feeling. sometimes just seeing the real obstacle clearly is enough to loosen it.

  • write about the last time you thought about doing it and chose not to, and what you did instead.
  • imagine it is done. write about how you feel on the other side.
  • ask yourself what you are protecting by leaving it undone.

this is for you if your to do list has one item that has been there for weeks, and every time you look at it you feel something heavier than laziness.
