what did you survive that made you gentler?

some things you survive make you tougher. but some things do the opposite. they leave you more careful with people, more aware of how much can be going on beneath the surface.

answer today's question

think about a difficult experience that changed the way you treat others, or yourself. write about what happened, but spend most of your time on what came after. how did it change the way you listen. the way you speak to someone who is struggling. the way you hold your own mistakes. write down a specific moment when you noticed the gentleness in yourself and thought, that is new. it is worth naming what the hardship gave you, not to justify it, but to honour the way you moved through it.

  • write about a moment when you were unexpectedly gentle with someone because you understood what they were feeling.
  • think about whether the gentleness surprised you, or whether it felt like it had been waiting.
  • consider how you treat yourself differently now compared to before that experience.

this is for anyone who has been through something painful and come out softer rather than harder. especially if no one else has noticed the change.
