what’s the memory you replay that still stings?

there is a scene your mind returns to without being invited. it might be years old. it still arrives with its full weight, every time.

every day there's one live question, the same for everyone. answer it anonymously, see what other people said. it's all gone in seven days.

answer today's question

write the memory down as plainly as you can. not a story, just the facts of it. where you were, who was there, what happened. then, underneath, write what you feel in your body when you replay it. shame, anger, sadness, something else. try to name the exact sting. is it something someone said? something you didn't say? something you can never undo? now write one sentence about what this memory made you believe about yourself. look at that sentence. ask yourself if it is the truth or just the sharpest version of events.

  • write down the moment as though you were describing it to someone who was gentle and had no opinion about you.
  • ask yourself what you wish you had said or done differently, and sit with whether that wish is fair to who you were then.
  • consider whether the sting comes from what happened or from what you decided it meant about you.

this is for anyone who carries a moment that won't soften. especially if you have never written it down in plain words before.
